Twitter API No Longer Supports Free Access

Based on the latest official tweet, Twitter will no longer support free tier access to their API:

How does this affect Twitter extension?

As the extension uses Twitter API v1.1 mentioned in the Tweet, the current version will most likely stop functioning, unless Twitter introduces a reasonably paid tier that would make sense for my current app to migrate to.

Are you exploring other ways to make the extension functional after February 9th?

Yes, I do have a solid idea for a workaround. However, Twitter gave us, the developers, very little time to implement such a solution. That means there will be most likely some downtime before I can finish it.

I just purchased the extension. Can I refund it if you can’t implement a viable workaround?

Yes. Please contact Itch if you wish to receive a refund: https://itch.io/docs/legal/terms#refunds. Unfortunately, Itch does not provide the developers a way to do it themselves.

As of now, Twitter has provided very little information on how the new paid tiers are going to work and there has been no announcement in the official Twitter Developers Forum yet. It’s very possible this might still change.
